Flu immunisation provides protection against an unpredictable virus which infects many people each year. It can cause severe illness and deaths, particularly amongst risk groups – older people, pregnant women and those with long term conditions.
The flu nasal spray is the best way of protecting children from flu. Immunising children is also good at stopping the spread of flu in the community – protecting family (other siblings, parents and grandparents), friends and teachers and other child carers.
All children aged 2, 3 and 4 years can get the flu vaccine from their GP, and those in years 1,2 and 3 are offered the nasal spray, by the specialist immunisation team, in schools.
